For Sale: 2018 BMW M3 CS w/ 29k Miles in San Marino Blue

Here is a 2018 BMW M3 CS for sale (VIN #:  WBS8M9C5XJ5L71750) in San Marino Blue.  The listing on Autotrader states the vehicle has 29,073 miles.  Per the attached AutoCheck report it states the vehicle has a clean title and is a 1-owner car.  $68,500 is the current asking price.  Car is located in Los Angeles, CA.

General Observations

This example is optioned with the executive package and what appears to be the M Performance carbon fiber side skirt extensions.  It is 1 of 209 San Marino Blue examples that were brought to the USA.  Per the AutoCheck report it was originally purchased in Brooklyn, NY and very shortly after was shipped off to Los Angeles, CA where it’s been since practically new.

Going over the attached AutoCheck report I don’t see any red flags to be concerned over as AutoCheck clears the vehicle of any reported accidents and odometer discrepancies.  This, of course, is subject to any potential buyer to verify.

Like many brand new M3 CS examples, this was originally leased and looks to be purchased by the owner after the lease ended.  Per AutoCheck it may be a discrepancy title wise as it states its still currently leased.  Unless the buyer extended or renewed the lease I doubt this is the case and probably has a normal loan or lien against the car and AutoCheck is not updating this.

Exterior Condition

Going over the car there’s not much I can point out as everything through photos appear as they should.  What I’m seeing a lot of in today’s market now that these cars have accumulated mileage are damaged front lower carbon fiber lips which typically costs ~$3,000 in parts alone.  I point this out as it’s something you should keep in mind while cross shopping examples.  Not to mention labor costs as it requires a special adhesive and complete front bumper removal to replace.  This particular example appears to have a SOLID front lip which is a huge positive in the vetting process.

Interior Condition

Interior looks clean.  Again, not much I can pick apart as only normal wear and tear appears throughout the interior.  Based on the 2 interior photos provided it appears to be meticulously cared for — especially with 29k miles.

It is not easy keeping the driver seat that pristine over 29k miles. The current owner clearly was fastidious in gently getting in and out of the vehicle.  There is very minimal discoloration to the silverstone colored stripe and minimal wear to the side bolsters.

It’s hard to see in photos, but the steering appears to be in good shape considering the mileage.  As an owner of 2 BMW’s with Alcantara steering wheels theres simply no way to avoid inevitable premature wear and tear.  This is something you should budget for in replacing as time goes on.

Things I’d Inquire About

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

With just a handful of photos to work with, I’m unable to determine if this example has any PPF added.  As an owner of a San Marino Blue example myself, I can attest that the paint on these cars without paint protection film are tough to maintain and pit very easy.  With 29k miles and judging the front end I would be shocked if this car doesn’t have existing PPF. Front end looks great and in like-new condition.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires

Just glancing at the photos, I’d ask to see what the tread depth is on the Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.  Per experts, I’d also check the age of tires as they may need to be replaced on time alone.  Typically tires have a shelf life of 5-6 years regardless of tread wear.  These cars are now around 5 years old and something you should always consider in ownership costs.

Maintenance and Service

Going over the AutoCheck report there isn’t much in the way of the vehicles service history.  Not that these vehicles have many inherent problems to begin with and often times just needs “normal servicing”, it is still something I would inquire with the seller to provide and personally go over to your satisfaction.  These cars are now out of their normal 4 year/48 month warranty.  So unless the seller purchased an extended warranty I would reach out to a mechanic or your local dealer to see what upcoming service is due for the vehicle.
