For Sale: Facebook 2018 BMW M3 CS w/ 29k Miles in Black Sapphire Metallic
Here is a Facebook find of a 2018 BMW M3 CS that is for sale (VIN #: Upon request through seller) in Black Sapphire Metallic (BSM). The listing on Facebook Marketplace states the vehicle has 29k miles. Please note: If the original listing link does not work, this car has probably sold. The seller states the car has had 2 owners. $67,929 is the current asking price. Car is located in Orangevale, CA.
General Observations
This example is very similar in spec and condition to a previous Black Sapphire Metallic example I wrote about not too long ago. Which by the way, is still available. This example is equipped with the Executive Package and has the standard steel brakes. This is 1 of 118 Black Sapphire Metallic examples that were brought to the USA. The seller states this example has the following modifications:
- Paint Matched Front Reflectors
- Red M1/M2 Steering Wheel Buttons
- Active Autowerke Equal Length Midpipe (Factory Midpipe Available)
- Burger Motorsports Wheel Spacers (12mm Front & 15mm Rear)
- Steve Dinan’s Carbahn Stage 1 Software
- 5 Year Ceramic Coating (Applied June 2023)
Looking over the Facebook Marketplace description the seller states the car is currently under an Extended Service Plan from BMW which covers brakes, oil services, and more. This is something I’d inquire with the seller to obtain more information about.
The seller reports the car has a clean title. However, there is no CarFax or Autocheck report for me to review so this is something you want to purchase to review the vehicle history for accidents and incidents that were potentially reported. With CarFax they typically show detailed service records which is a huge plus in saving time vetting a used car if everything is documented through the history report.
Exterior Condition
The seller has a high quality 30 second video of a walk around of the vehicle (see near the top of this page) and I can say the car looks pristine in the video. The ceramic coating truly shines even through video. The seller states the car was always hand washed or through a touch less car wash and its condition truly shows. The paint looks swirl free as a paint correction is always done prior to ceramic coating which was done a few months ago sometime in June 2023.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S Tires
There isn’t many photos or media for me to work off of, but watching the attached video it appears the car is now sporting a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires. This is a nice upgrade to the now outdated Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires that originally came with all US spec F80 M3 CS models. I’ve mentioned it before, but you can tell a lot about how a car and its owner by the tires mounted on the car. The seller is clearly a serious enthusiast that seems to have NOT spared a dollar in giving this example the very best parts. To me, this is a great sign of potential quality of an example to consider.
Interior Condition
The seller provided just a small handful of interior photos, but its enough for me to get a good idea of the condition of the interior as a whole. The merino leather seats appear to be in great shape and show normal wear for a car with 30k miles. The driver seat appears to have minimal wear on the bolsters which tend to show the most wear and tear on these cars. I would recommend a leather rejuvenation treatment kit if I was a prospective buyer to get the leather back to its matte OEM finish as if the car was brand new and fresh off the dealer lot.
The Alcantara steering wheel appears to have wear and tear consistent to the vehicles current mileage of 30k. The Alcantara material itself appears to have worn down and perhaps needs to be replaced soon. This is not a knock on the condition of the car itself as Alcantara simply does not last long.
Things I’d Inquire About This M3 CS
Paint Protection Film (PPF)
The seller mentions ceramic coat was applied recently on June 2023, but makes no mention of PPF. This is something I’d ask the seller about. If PPF was applied I’d what areas were protected. I’d also ask for an invoice or registration card as most PPF carry a transferable 10 year warranty.
Maintenance and Service
As mentioned above, there is no CarFax or Autocheck provided. The seller does mentions the car was serviced exclusively at BMW of Roseville. Judging by the condition of the car I have no doubts this car was fastidiously maintained. This is still something I would verify through the CarFax report or, if need be, have the service department of a BMW dealership provide you with its service history.
A huge positive to this car is that it includes an Extended Service Plan from BMW. This is something I’d inquire with the seller and BMW with what all this entails. Is there any warranty left to protect you from manufacturer defects? Or is all that is left a service plan as titled? This is something I’d want to clarify.
The car currently has its ECU tuned via Dinan Stage 1. It also has its mid-pipe swapped to an Active Autowerke equal length. I mention these two modifications as if you’re inquiring about existing warranty, I’d want to see if these two modifications void any potential warranty left.
Two Almost Identical Examples To Choose From…
As mentioned above, this example is very similar to another Black Sapphire Metallic example for about the same price. Both models seem to be in great condition and both have light modifications. They are both located in the state of California as well.
This particular example has a couple more notable modifications. The first is the Dinan tuned ECU. The second is the much coveted Active Autowerke equal length mid-pipe which gives this example a slight edge, in my opinion. I say this, as the mid-pipe upgrade vastly improves the exhaust sound of the car. This is a modification, I, myself, covet if I were to modify my personal example.
The ~$2,000 less in ask price is obviously a nice bonus. The icing on the cake, however, is the included service plan from BMW which makes it an even greater buy. If I was a prospective buyer and being that both examples are located in the same state I’d view both examples and then make an educated decision on which to buy.
General Disclaimer
I’d like to first clarify that I am not connected to the seller or platform in any way. When purchasing any vehicle, I highly recommend doing your own due diligence before consummating a deal. My personal insights and opinions that I’ve shared through this post stem from my cautious perspective and carry no responsibility for the actual condition of the mentioned vehicle. I highly recommend arranging a 3rd party pre-purchase inspection with a trusted mechanic. I also recommend researching the vehicles history through a CarFax or an AutoCheck report.
