For Sale: 2018 BMW M3 CS w/ 5k Miles in Black Sapphire Metallic

Here is a 2018 BMW M3 CS for sale (VIN #:  WBS8M9C53J5L00339) in Black Sapphire Metallic (BSM).  The listing on Ferrari of San Francisco states the vehicle has 5,504 miles.  There is currently no complimentary CarFax or AutoCheck history report for me to review so I can’t elaborate on its history.  $89,988 is the current asking price.  Car is located in San Francisco, CA.

 

General Observations

This example is equipped with the Executive Package and has the standard steel brakes.  This is 1 of 118 Black Sapphire Metallic examples that were brought to the USA.  This example has no other M-Performance accessories optioned.

Per the Autotrader listing and the selling dealers website, there is currently no complimentary CarFax or AutoCheck history report for me to review.  If this changes I will update this post and share my observations.  With such low-mileage I don’t expect there to be much, if any, drama.  I personally own a 5k mile example and can say this example is very consistent to the example I personally own.  This example is an absolute stunner and will post more than the usual amount of photos of this example so future buyers can reference what an almost new example looks like in the years to come.

 

Exterior Condition

I know it’s only been ~5 years since the rollout of the 2018 BMW M3 CS, but I must say this feels like a time capsule in 2023.  There is little to nothing I can pick apart about this car as it’s as perfect as you will ever see.  Clearly this was an example that was purchased as a collector piece and it absolutely shows.

Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires

If I were to guess, based on the mileage, this example is still sitting on its original Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires from the factory.  Being that it’s been about ~5 years since the F80 M3 CS rolled out it’s almost about time to replace the tires due to age.  If I was a prospective buyer and knowing my OCD, I’d likely buy a new set of OEM 763M wheels and mount a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s to use once the current tires truly time out and become unsafe to drive on.  I only state this as a potential “collector enthusiast” that intends on preserving this capsule should consider this.  If this is the case, it would be a cool to have the original set stored away as a token or to mount for a future concours show.

 

Interior Condition

There is absolutely nothing I can pick apart about the interior.  It shows as brand-new, off the showroom floor, level of condition.  Just looking at the interior it brings back memories of when I took delivery of my then new example back in 2019.

Spotless.  Absolutely spotless.  I hope the new owner is meticulous in getting in and out of the driver seat by contorting their back from rubbing against upper bolster to preserve this look for as long as possible.  I take much pride in ownership of mine that I don’t even wear denim jeans when I drive mine.  This is to prevent ink transfer associated with denim jeans.  Freshly washed sweat pants or nylon shorts only.  LOL!

“Right-click and save it” so you can look back and remember what a new Alcantara steering wheel looks like.  Haha. The new look of an Alcantara steering wheel doesn’t stay like this long-term.  This statement is not isolated to BMW, but it’s directed to ALL Alcantara steering wheels regardless of manufacturer.

 

Things I’d Inquire About

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Going over photos, this example has an extensive amount of PPF applied.  From what I can gather the entire front clip is covered.  It also appears to have coverage on the A-Pillar and on the front of the carbon fiber roof as seen above.  Lastly, it also appears the PPF installer made custom pieces to partially cover the rear arches and rear door as seen below.  If I’m a prospective buyer, I would see what else was covered in PPF.  I’d assume if you are going this far the rocker panels would also be covered in PPF.  As always, please contact the selling dealer for more info or go in-person to inspect for yourself.

The only thing I can note is that it appears that the front lower carbon lip has some light surface damage as seen above.  I hope what light and minor impact the lip endured penetrated just the PPF that was hopefully applied.  If I’m a prospective buyer, I would be inspecting the blemish to my satisfaction and looking closely to see if the PPF protected the actual lip.  Just to preface my words, PPF is not built to take on impact beyond a rock chip so I would temper expectations.

 

Maintenance and Service

Without being able to review a history report as mentioned above I can’t comment on its service history.  Again, this will change if the selling dealer adds a CarFax or AutoCheck report to the listing.  I hope at very least the previous owner had the initial 1,200 mile break-in service completed.  This along with its annual oil change services done.  With my personal example being similar in mileage this is exactly what my service advisor recommended and what the iDrive infotainment reminded you to complete.  My service advisor stated brake fluid and filters will be due next service appointment.

That being said, as mentioned in previous blog posts, I’d contact a local BMW dealer to go over its service history and inquire what currently needs to be done maintenance wise and what is schedule in the future.  From what I’ve gathered and through my experiences these cars are pretty bulletproof.  But with anything mechanical, theres always an exception.  Always do your due diligence.
