For Sale: 2018 BMW M3 CS w/ 43k Miles in Lime Rock Grey

Here is a 2018 BMW M3 CS for sale (VIN #:  WBS8M9C50J5L00072) in Lime Rock Grey (LRG).  The listing on BMW of Tulsa states the vehicle has 43,078 miles.  Per the attached CarFax report it states the vehicle has a clean title and has had 3 previous owners.  $69,990 is the current asking price.  Car is located in Tulsa, OK.

General Observations

This particular example is optioned with the executive package and the $5,000 CS specific Lime Rock Grey (LRG) paint.  This is 1 of 92 Lime Rock Grey examples that came to the USA.  Car is equipped with the standard steel brakes.

According to CarFax this is a 3-owner car that was BMW Certified Pre-Owned back on 04/30/2022 with 36,721 miles.  This is important because after a substantial amount of mileage it passed BMW’s 196 point inspection that offers an extended 1 year warranty.  Per the timeline from the CarFax report, the extended warranty has since lapsed.

Going over the rest of the CarFax, this example seems to be well documented with routine serviced recorded since new.  One interesting observation I had was all 3 owners were within the Tulsa, OK area which is devoid of inclement weather, generally speaking.  This could be a potential positive as rust and clear coat issues are starting to affect these cars now that they’re around 5 years old now.  Of course, I’d still recommend going over the vehicle in-person for signs of unusual wear and tear.

Exterior Condition

Going over the front-end of the vehicle, it looks extremely clean paint wise in photos.  However, photos and in-person are two different things.  Per my previous blog entries, I’ve stated the camera can only pick up a fraction of the detail the human eye can.  So please take this with a grain of salt.  Nothing beats going over a car in person and making a judgement of your own.

One thing I am noticing is the bumper alignment seems to be a touch off from where the top of the bumper meets the hood.  I’m not implying anything negative as it could be a variety of things.  Could have been routine warranty work that required removing the front bumper and the reassembly of the bumper could be a touch off.  Might have been for paintwork.  It possibly could have been the bumper pushing into something at low-speed thus causing the misalignment.  It would best to inspect the car yourself or inquire with the selling dealer and/or a 3rd party party see exactly why this is.

In the photo below where I talk about the set of tires on the vehicle I’m noticing the front lower carbon lip seems to be misaligned.  I would look into this with the selling dealer if I was a prospective buyer.  Again, I’m not implying anything wrong, generally speaking.  This is a used car with 43k miles.  There’s bound to be flaws.  Whether you can accept them for what they are or can work something out with the selling dealer is something you’ll have to personally decide.

Continental Conti Sport Contact 5P Tires

Car is equipped with a set of Contintental Conti Sport Contact 5P tires.  Per tire rack, these are a “max performance summer” tire.  As I’ve stated in the past BMW tuned the M3 CS for Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2’s.  This is something you may or may not want to consider when it comes time to replace tires.  If I’m a prospective buyer, I’m giving them a shot and deciding later-on when to replace.

Interior Condition

Interior looks great for 43k miles.  If you were to ask me the interior appears to have much, much less miles than what the odometer reads.  Shockingly, the leather looks to be in like-new condition.  Bolsters on the driver seat appears to have minimal wear.  The rest of the interior looks to be meticulously cared for as I’m not seeing much wear on the soft-touch plastic or the extended leather.

The passenger side seat legitimately looks to be minimally used.  They legit look “brand new” off the dealer lot.  From this angle you can see the driver side bolsters which appear to be in good shape — especially for the mileage.  Pride in ownership shows, in my opinion.

The only thing I can point out is the Alcantara steering wheel appears to have normal wear.  This is to be expected for a car with 43k miles.  It doesn’t appear to be needing replacement, yet.  I, personally, would just continue to use until I felt necessary to replace.

Things I’d Inquire About

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Going over the various photos of the front end, I am unable to determine if the vehicle has PPF applied.   Looking at the photo above I’m not seeing a chipped up front-end from rock chips and debris.  One would assume this car has PPF applied as a car with 43k miles generally speaking would not be this nice, condition wise.  Either way, I’d inquire with the selling dealer to confirm.

Maintenance and Service

Per my observations above, this example has had extensive documented service from the same selling dealer since new.  It, again, was BMW Certified Pre-Owned before it went to its 3rd owner on 04/30/2022.  By all appearances this example appears to be well-kept service wise.  I couldn’t ask for a better documented history.

All that said, like with any used car I would ask a service advisor or a trusty BMW independent mechanic what the car needs service wise now and in the future.  This way you can budget for future operating costs.  For this example, this would be an easy thing to do with the selling dealer being a BMW dealership.  I would take advantage of this.
