For Sale: 2018 BMW M3cs w/ 41k Miles in Black Sapphire Metallic
Here is a 2018 BMW M3cs for sale (VIN #: WBS8M9C51J5L71815) in Black Sapphire Metallic (BSM). The listing on Autotrader states the vehicle has 41,000 miles. Per the attached AutoCheck report it states the vehicle has a clean title and 2 previous owners. $67,000 is the current asking price. Car is located in Costa Mesa, CA.
General Observations
This particular example is one of the very handful of examples that isn’t optioned with the executive package which likely makes it weight wise, one of the lighter variants of the F80 M3cs as it deletes the following: Side and rear window shades, park-distance control, heads-up display, and automatic high-beams. Just as a general take and personal opinion, I wish BMW allowed for the adaptive LED headlights to be optioned on it’s own as I feel that’s only thing of value within the executive package. Everything else, in my opinion, counteracts the whole point of having a “track focused” model. So having a non-executive package car can be looked as a positive in my eyes.
Given the higher mileage and based on photos this looks to be a really well kept example in stock form. Per the AutoCheck report it appears to have been owned within the Southern California area and its condition shows in photos to have avoided inclement weather.
If you’ve ever owned a black car you would know the pain of maintaining one. It is noted the car has been recently ceramic coated which immensely helps mitigating exterior upkeep.
Staying on the subject of the AutoCheck report, it is noted that the vehicle was in a minor accident on April 2022 which is something I’d inquire further about. I won’t make assumptions as that wouldn’t be fair to the seller. Definitely do your own due diligence.
Generally speaking, if this vehicle checked out and if I was looking for a solid driver quality car this would be good candidate especially for it’s current asking price in today’s current market. As of this writing, there isn’t many F80 M3cs’s to choose from at the moment compared to even say a month ago.
Interior Condition
The first thing I noticed about this particular example is that it has very dark tinted windows which is great for preserving the interior and, in my opinion, it shows. As a buyer, even if I wasn’t into tinted widows I’d look at this a positive as I know I could always have the tinted windows removed. Especially being a Southern California car, the UV damage the sun does to an interior is unforgiving so having tinted windows is a huge positive for me.
There isn’t many detailed photos of the driver seat so I can’t comment on the area that usually has the most amount of wear and tear (notably the bolster and thigh support area). The steering wheel shows some sign of wear and tear, but that is expected for a car with 41,000 miles. Even with that said, it still appears to be in good shape.
Things I’d Inquire About
As mentioned above I’d inquire more about the minor accident that was reported on the AutoCheck report. It should’t preclude this example from potentially buying, but again, do your due diligence.
Paint Protection Film (PPF)
Going over the Autotrader description it states that paint protection film was applied to just the rear arches which is a huge positive as the factory paint protection film does an inadequate job of fully protecting the protruding rear arches. If you ever seen an F80 M3 with any significant miles with the factory rear arch paint protection film that doesn’t extend up high enough, you will understand the importance of this being upgraded. All that said, there is no mention of any paint protection film added to the front end of the vehicle. If this is something that concerns you, like many enthusiasts, I’d inquire further about that.
Maintenance and Service
Outside of that, the seller states the brake pads have been replaced and that all services are up to date. With the car having 41,000 miles I’d look into what upcoming services are due within the next 10-20-30k miles so you’re prepared for maintenance costs. Generally speaking these cars, in my opinion, are pretty bulletproof provided you keep the factory recommended services up to date.
General Disclaimer
I’d like to first clarify that I am not connected to the seller or platform in any way. When purchasing any vehicle, I highly recommend doing your own due diligence before consummating a deal. My personal insights and opinions that I’ve shared through this post stem from my cautious perspective and carry no responsibility for the actual condition of the mentioned vehicle. I highly recommend arranging a 3rd party pre-purchase inspection with a trusted mechanic. I also recommend researching the vehicles history through a CarFax or an AutoCheck report.
