For Sale: 2018 BMW M3 CS w/ 59k miles in Frozen Dark Blue II
Here is a 2018 BMW M3 CS for sale (VIN #: WBS8M9C5XJ5L00337) in Frozen Dark Blue II (FDB). The listing on M Sport Motor Cars states the vehicle has 59,475 miles. Please note: If the original listing link does not work, this car has probably sold. Per the attached CarFax report it states the vehicle has a clean title and has had 2 previous owners. $59,000 is the current asking price. Car is located in Hillside, NJ.
General Observations
This example is equipped with the Executive Package and has the standard steel brakes. This is 1 of 63 Frozen Dark Blue II examples that were brought to the USA. This is the second vehicle I’ve reviewed from the selling dealer with this car being the first. I must say I give them much praise for doing an excellent job of presenting cars. It makes the buying process so much easier for both selling and buying parties. A good amount of quality photos and a CarFax or AutoCheck report goes A LONG way in getting top dollar.
Review of the CarFax report
Going over the attached CarFax report, it states the car was originally leased like many F80 M3 CS examples. It states on 05/02/2022 a 2nd owner of this car was reported. However, one can assume the original owner bought out the lease and financed it making it a one-owner car. I say this because the car stayed in the same area its entire life. Again, this is all assumption, but something I’ve noticed with how CarFax and AutoCheck report car histories. With the car on a used car lot, this is probably something you would have a tough time verifying.
Looking at the service history entries, there are only 2 entries for service from 2 different BMW dealerships. This is something I would go to a BMW dealership to ask about pulling up its entire service history for you to review.
Exterior Condition
Just going over the extensive amount of photos you can’t help be enamored by Frozen Dark Blue II. I really love this color. As a “collector”, I also like the fact that it’s the rarest F80 M3 CS color brought to the USA. This is definitely something you can hold your head high when people ask about your car.
Mismatched Paint
One thing I immediately noticed is the mismatched panels on the driver side of the car. The rear door and rear quarter panel appear to be a different hue than the rest of the car. It also appears this area of the car has a different sheen and texture, paint wise. This is something you can verify using an automotive paint meter to measure the paint thickness and consistency. While speaking on the driver side, I noticed the driver front fender has a chrome “base” model side grille versus the passenger side has the correct black shadow line grille installed.
If I was an interested buyer, I would take this car to a reputable body shop to get their opinion on what may have possibly happened and their opinion on the quality of the purported repair.
Random Exterior Wear and Tear Dents
Going over the vehicles passenger side door I noticed a dent right above the body line as seen in the photo above. There is also one on the driver side rear quarter panel. This is NOT a knock on the car as a car with almost 60k miles you are bound to have flaws. This car is no exception.
Michelin Pilot Super Sport Tires, Brakes, & Rolling Assembly
It appears the previous owner replaced the original set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires with the exact tires that came with the factory. These are not cheap tires so its nice to know the previous owner didn’t cheap out on upkeep.
Regarding the orbit grey 763M forged wheels, the rear passenger wheel and front driver side wheel appear to have curb rash.
The brake rotors appear to have seen better days. The car could have possibly been fresh off a car wash and residual dirt and grime may have been left behind. Either way, if you’re doing a 3rd party pre-purchase inspection this is something I’d ask the mechanic or technician to check on to see how much life the brakes have.
Interior Condition
For a car with almost 60k miles the interior represents a car with said mileage. The normal wear and tear items are shown below. There appears to be the typical bolster wear on the driver side and minor wear on the passenger side bolster. This is something I would reach out to an automotive leather repair shop in your area as it can be repaired or rejuvenated.
The rest of the interior appears to have held up nicely and appears to be in good shape in photos. I’d venture to say whoever owned this car took great pride in ownership off condition alone.
As I’ve spoken ad nauseam about, the Alcantara steering wheel appears to have seen better days. With the current mileage of the vehicle, this is to be expected. Alcantara material is NOT built to last. It is assumed you will have to replace the steering wheel multiple times throughout the life of the car.
Things I’d Inquire About This M3 CS
Paint Protection Film (PPF)
With the extensive photos provided, I am unable to tell if the car has PPF. There also is no mention of PPF in the description. However, looking at the front end of the vehicle in combination with its current mileage of 60k there is no way the front-end is this well preserved without PPF. That being said one can assume the car has PPF, but something I would verify with the selling dealer.
Maintenance and Service
This is definitely a car I would have a 3rd party pre-purchase inspection done with a trusted BMW independent mechanic or a BMW dealership. With 60k miles there is bound to be wear and tear items that need to be addressed today or in the not so distant future. Being that this car was located in the Northeast region, I would get this car on a lift to see for potential rust.
Driver Quality Buy?
With only 63 Frozen Dark Blue II examples coming to the USA and it being ~5 years since the F80 M3 CS was released, I feel we are reaching a point where its becoming harder and harder to source these cars, in general. This is the rarest example paint wise that you could be waiting “forever” for a drama free example to pop-up. This is the consensus I’ve determined by the many people that have reached out to me hunting daily for “their F80 M3 CS”. We’ve really reached that point where these cars are going scarce. More so, if you are looking for the upper echelon of excellent condition, no drama examples.
As pretty as these cars are inside-out, if you own one, you will realize these cars look as good as they drive. They are truly meant to be driven and experienced to truly appreciate. If I was in the market for an F80 M3 CS the driving experience is something I’d have a slight preponderance over trying to find the most perfect example.
