For Sale: 2018 BMW M3 CS w/ 24k Miles in San Marino Blue

Here is a 2018 BMW M3 CS for sale (VIN #:  WBS8M9C54J5L71744) in San Marino Blue (SMB).  The private sale listing on cars.com states the vehicle has 24,500 miles.  Please note: If the original listing link does not work, this car has probably sold.  Per the attached CarFax report it states the vehicle has a clean title and has had 2 previous owners.  $79,999 is the current asking price.  Car is located in Irvine, CA.

General Observations

This example is equipped with the Executive Package and has the standard steel brakes.  This is 1 of 209 San Marino Blue examples that were brought to the USA.  I found this listing on a Bimmerpost thread and thought I’d share.  At this very moment, this is the only bone-stock, clean title, low mileage, presumably no drama example on the open market.  This is a vast contrast in relation to what the market offered over the summer.  Good, solid examples are starting to go scarce.

The listing does not provide a complimentary CarFax or AutoCheck for me to review..  However, on the ad itself, AutoCheck gives a snippet of their report.  It states the vehicle has a clean title, no accidents or damage reported, and has had multiple owners.

Exterior Condition

Per the listing description, the seller claims the car has “no issues whatsoever with the car with everything functional and no single ding, dent or scratch. Absolute mint condition.”  Based on the presentation of the photos provided by the seller, this is absolutely one of the cleanest examples you can buy.  The seller and previous owner appear to be meticulous in ownership and it shows.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires

This photo is probably the best quality close-up of the car which shows how well-kept the car is.   On any F80 M3 the steel rotors and heat-shield are the hardest thing to keep clean and this one shows as if it’s freshly detailed.

Tire wise, the seller has upgraded the original Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires to a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S.

Interior Condition

Interior looks great.  Not much to comment on it as it appears to show in like-new condition.  The passenger seat doesn’t even look to be used or if it was used, it was used very seldomly.  I am unable to see the driver side bolsters where there tends to be the most amount of wear and tear.  That being said, this is something I’d inquire with the seller and request more photos.

The Alcantara steering wheel looks to be well cared for — or as best as one can care for a high maintenance part.  If I were to guess this car was owned as a trophy piece — with hopefully the occasional spirited drive.  I say this because of the little things I’m observing where I’m not seeing tons of wear and tear.  What I do see is a high sense of pride in ownership.

My photos can be clicked-on for higher resolution.  When you do see the full size photos, you can probably understand what I’m referring to.  Many F80 M3 CS examples at this point have glaring wear and tear issues that this example does not possess.

Things I’d Inquire About This M3 CS

Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Per the seller description, he or she mentions the car doesn’t have “a single ding, dent, or scratch”.  Looking over the front end I’m unable to tell if the car has PPF.  But looking over photos and going off the sellers description, one would assume the car has at least PPF applied on the entire front end.  This is something I would inquire with the seller.

Maintenance and Service

bmw m3 cs engine bay s55 WBS8M9C57J5L71396There isn’t a CarFax or AutoCheck for me to review the service history, but the seller mentions it was “dealer maintained with all the service history available”.  I have no reason to question this as the car was and is still under warranty.  Per the seller description the car was purchased with a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) warranty that expires in February 2024.

The CPO warranty is a great peace of mind — especially for the sellers ask price.  It’s nice to know you have a level of confidence and recourse to sort the car out at the dealers expense under new ownership.  This is something I would absolutely value as newer cars are expensive to maintain when things go wrong.  In general, the F80 M3 chassis is built tough with no known common major catastrophic issues to address.

High Ask Price or Trending Market Value?

f80 m3 san marino blue

The seller on his description and on his forum posts on Bimmerpost states they are firm on their $79,999 ask price.  I don’t blame him.  His logic posits the new G80 M3 CS would cost $140k+ out the door and if a prospective buyer cross shops both the F80 and G80 M3 CS one would see the value in his asking price of being roughly half the cost of the brand new controversial model that may not be everyones cup of tea.

I look at the market everyday and noticing, as of late, good examples are becoming very difficult to source.  I notice many F80 M3 CS examples have complicated stories.  If this example checks out, I would say its worth every penny.  But if you’re paying this much this car better be practically flawless exterior, interior, and service wise.  Looking at used examples constantly since new I realized an overwhelming majority of examples fetch the highest prices if listed on Autotrader.  I’m not getting paid to say this as I have no affiliation with Autotrader.  I’m merely pointing out what I’ve observed through the hundreds of listings that I have seen come and go.  If you are a seller looking to get top dollar I would recommend taking high quality photos and publishing at least 20+ of said photos.  Presentation and knowing where to advertise is everything with these cars.

  1. Hi Jeremy,
I envy your dedication and enthusiasm providing a ton of good info for folks who are in the market to buy a piece of history.
Thanks for posting this report on my M3 CS. I can provide you with original photos as it seems like cars.com reduces the quality of photos once uploaded.
